Bangladesh Police has so far lost 24 of its personnel to Covid-19
Law enforcement has been much praised for their work as essential frontline workers amid the Covid-19 pandemic by the people, who used to be critical about them for various reasons, says the Bangladesh Police chief.
“It’s a great achievement,” Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed said on Sunday during an event at police headquarters.
He asked his force to uphold the trust earned during the pandemic even after the crisis ends.
The IGP made the remarks at the event for giving rank badges to 21 newly-promoted additional superintendents of police.
The members of police have gone beyond their duty and served the people during a crisis just like humanitarian organizations, said Benazir.
“It’s the police who came forward to ensure the burials of Covid-19 victims who were abandoned by their families,” he said, before paying tribute to the 24 frontline police personnel who died infected with the disease.
Additional IGPs Md Moinur Rahman Chowdhury, Md Shahab Uddin Qureshi, and SM Ruhul Amin were among others who attended the event.
