Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) is preparing a draft of the health safety guidelines that everyone will have to strictly follow, maintain while being at the cattle markets amid the coronavirus pandemic.
A list containing these directives will be provided to the leaseholders, sellers as well as buyers at the makeshift cattle markets across Dhaka south which are likely to start from June 27, a few days before this year’s Eid-ul-Azha.
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, said: “We are formulating a guideline for the makeshift cattle markets in our areas in order to curb further spread of the Covid-19.”
He made the announcement during a meeting on waste management during Eid-ul-Azha held at the Nagar Bhaban in Dhaka on Monday.
“Those who are aged above 60 will be requested not to come to the cattle markets as the risk of them getting infected, or even dying from the deadly virus, are higher than other age groups, according to the global coronavirus report by WHO.
“We need to be very careful and aware to prevent coronavirus from spreading more through the cattle markets.”
“Those who will go to the cattle markets, must wear a mask, hand gloves, and also have to maintain social distancing,” he added.
“We will operate a mobile court against the culprits who violate the health safety guidelines at the cattle markets,” he said.
