Mayor Atiqul urges to maintain health safety, hygiene during Qurbani

DNCC has 256 designated slaughtering spots for animals

Dhaka North City (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam has urged the city dwellers to slaughter sacrificial animals while maintaining health safety standards and hygiene during  Eid-ul-Azha to be held on Saturday.

Atiqul made the call at a virtual media briefing  organized by the e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB), to inform the about the sales of cattle through online marketplace, on Friday.

He also called upon DNCC residents to make sure to clean the waste of sacrificial animals immediately amid the Covid-19 pandemic, where there is high risk of contamination.

 “This year, we are going to celebrate the Eid-ul-Azha amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Everyone should maintain the safety instructions and sacrifice the animals by complying health guidelines."

“We (DNCC) have 256 designated slaughtering spots for animals. As per our estimation, there will be 11,000 tons of waste during Eid and the city corporations has already kept over 1,100 cleaners ready to remove the waste,” the DNCC mayor said.

“It is your city and your children will pass through the city streets to go school and you will move through the same streets too. So considering the health issues, keep the city clean for your interest," the mayor said while addressing the media briefing.

He also urged city dwellers to take slaughtering services from cattler farm Sadeeq Agro, as it is providing  professional butchers and it will slaughter 400 cows on the first day of Eid.    

“People can lodge any complaint related to waste dumping on open or public spaces, through the city corporation launched mobile app and we will remove the waste within 24 hours of receiving the complaint,” Atiqul added.
