The Counter terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested a youth for his alleged involvement with banned militant outfit New Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
His name is Md Salek alias Abu Salek, 19, and he was arrested from Babubazar Bridge area in Dhaka around 7pm on Monday.
CTTC’s Senior Assistant Commissioner Sheikh Imran Hossain confirmed the matter saying that acting on a tip-off, they conducted a raid and arrested Salek. They recovered a mobile phone during the raid.
Salek joined the militant group in 2018. He and some others communicate with each other using social media and other online networking apps. They also planned to recruit members to strengthen the organization's activities, he said.
They had also planned to collect arms and explosive materials for carrying out subversive activities, said Imran.
The police are trying to arrest the other members of the group, he added.
