The arrested militants were planning to buy firearms to join jihad, RAB says
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested four suspected members of banned militant outfit Ansar al-Islam in Dhaka.
They were arrested in front of Hotel Royal at Dakkhin Vishil of Mirpur’s Darus Salam area on Wednesday night.
The arrestees are Amit Hossain alias Abul Kalam, 38, Al Amin alias Tarik, 32, Shihab Uddin, 21, and Manikuzzaman alias Manik alias Ratan, 32.
The arrestees used to gather in different parts of Dhaka to discuss their next course of action, operative recruitment, fund collection etc.
RAB-2 Operation Officer ASP Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed the matter and said: “We had a tip-off that some suspected people were planning to hold a meeting in front of Hotel Royal at Dakkhin Vishil area. We conducted a raid in the area around 8:30pm and arrested the four.”
“We also recovered some jihadi books, cash money, and mobile phones from their possession. Three or four other suspects ran away from the scene sensing the presence of RAB,” he added.
“However, we got the names of their associates. We are trying to arrest the other operatives of the group,” the RAB official said.
During primary interrogation, the arrested men admitted that they belong to the militant group. They, mostly Shihab, were motivated to join jihad. Shihab was also trying to buy firearms to go to jihad, ASP Abdullah said.
