A student of Dhaka University has been physically assaulted by her neighbours in Kolmanda upazila. Netrakona.
The injured, Keya Akter Kakoli, a final year student of the Department of Bangla, Dhaka University, was attacked and beaten by some perpetrators which critically injured her, local sources said.
The incident sparked when her domestic calf accidentally went grazing in the neighbouring paddy field, and the owner and his followers mercilessly beat up the calf on Wednesday.
When Kakoli went to protest the incident with her mother, the perpetrators reportedly physically assaulted her as well, police say.
“They have beaten me with sticks when I went to protest the incident with my mother. Please, somebody, help us,” says a Facebook status posted by Keya with photographs of her injury.
After being informed of the incident, Kolmakanda UNO Md Sohel Rana rushed to the spot and arranged for her treatment at the upazila health complex.
Al Mamun, upazila health officer said: “Kakoli has suffered a critical head injury due to the attack. She is under observation at the hospital and we hope she will recover soon.”
Meanwhile, police arrested a certain Lalchan, 28, for his alleged involvement in the incident and an investigation is ongoing, police sources confirmed.
Kolmakanda police station’s Officer-in-Charge, Mazharul Karim said: “We arrested a youth already. We are waiting for a complaint to be filed so that we can go forward with the case.”
