3 held for making fake academic certificates in Dhaka

During the arrests, more than 50 fake academic certificates, seals of officials concerned with certificate issuance, and computer hard drives were seized

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police arrested three people on Saturday for making and selling fake academic certificates of different universities, including Dhaka University.

The arrested, all members of a ring, Kamruzzaman Md Salam, 57, Rumina Akter, 40, and Mahmudul Hasan Sohag, 33, were apprehended in the capital during a drive, according to a press release issued in this regard.

Kamruzzaman was at one time a controller at Darul Ihsan University.

After the university got banned in 2016, he and his wife Rumina, established Homo Sapiens Coaching Centre on Indira Road near Farmgate in Dhaka.

“At one point they started making and selling fake certificates of public and private universities alongside fake higher and secondary school certificates,” said CID officials.

During the arrest of the couple, 46 fake certificates and seals of officials concerned with certificate issuance were seized from them.

Later on, upon receiving information from the two, Sohag was held from Dhaka’s Demra and as many as 21 more fake academic certificates were seized from him.

A case was filed against them on Sunday with Sher-E-Bangla police station over the matter.

Efforts are on the way to arrest the other members of the ring, added CID officials.
