The accident took place in Beribadh area of Kamrangirchar Friday morning
A five-year old boy was killed in a road accident after he was hit by a battery-run auto rickshaw in Kamrangirchar of Dhaka.
The incident in the Beribadh area on Friday, triggered protests and demonstrations among local people.
The victim was identified as Rabbi.
Kamrangirchar police officer-in-charge Mustafizur Rahman said that they have arrested Hridoy, 17, the driver and seized the vehicle.
Sub Inspector (SI) Abul Kalam Azad told Dhaka Tribune that Rabbi was the only son of Arafat Mollah, who is a daily labourer. Rabbi's mother works as a maid.
Rabbi was playing outside of his house while his parents went for work. The auto rickshaw hit the boy when he was crossing the road at Beribadh area in Kamrangirchar around 11.30am, he added.
Rabbi was hit in his head and died on the spot. Police rushed to the spot immediately after the incident. They recovered the body and sent it to Sir Salimullah Medical College morgue for autopsy, Azad said.
He also said that after the incident, the locals started protesting by blocking the road and staging demonstrations. Later, police talked to them and brought the situation under control.
