Police so far have arrested 32 people in connection with torching public transport
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Saturday issued a note of warning that stern action would be taken against those involved in arson attacks on buses in the city.
“None will be spared . . . those who are involved in violent activities as well as setting fire on buses,” he told journalists at his official residence in Dhaka.
The minister said BNP could not accept the by-polls results because its candidate was defeated in Dhaka-18 by-polls.
Law enforcement agencies have received some conversations among BNP leaders relating to the arson attacks on buses, which proved BNP’s involvement in violent activities.

He said BNP wanted to make elections questionable wherever they were defeated, adding, “We have identified many who were involved in setting fire on buses through video footage and the CCTV footage and handed them over to the law enforcement agencies,” the home minister said.
Kamal said a peaceful situation has been prevailing in the country because the law enforcement agencies are now actively maintaining the law and order.
Meanwhile, 14 cases were filed and 32 accused were arrested so far in connection with the arson attacks on buses in the capital on November 12.
Of them, 28 arrestees were taken to remand. According to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, combustible materials were used in the arson attacks on buses.
Police have increased its patrols and number of checkposts in the capital to avert any untoward incidents.
Quader: BNP resorts to arson attacks to avenge polls defeat
Meanwhile, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said that BNP is out again to launch arson attacks to kill people to take revenge for its defeat in the polls as the people boycotted them both in movement and election.
“BNP’s political culture is of killings and terrorism. BNP’s history is of hatching conspiracy. Several years ago they killed innocent people hurling petrol bombs,” he said while addressing the council of Bagmara Upazila, Rajshahi unit of AL on Saturday.
He joined the function via videoconference from his official residence on parliament premises in Dhaka.

Quader said that BNP activists,in 2013, in guise of passengers, set fire to buses using gunpowder and in the same way they are now torching buses.
The road, transport, and bridges minister said the law enforcement agencies got the video-footage of setting fire to buses and the culprits are the same and old faces.
Police are working to unearth the mystery of a phone conversation over the incident, he added.
