DNCC Mayor: 200 truckloads of coconut husks, 33 mattresses recovered from 1 canal

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam has said 200 truckloads of coconut husks, 33 mattresses, refrigerators and TVs were recovered during the cleaning drive of a canal in the capital.

Atiqul Islam shared the incident during an online live discussion program titled “Janatar Mukhomukhi Nagarsebok” on Tuesday night.

During the program, the mayor continuously replied to queries from numerous city dwellers for nearly two hours.

When asked about initiatives being taken to clean the city, he assured that necessary measures were being taken. However, he also stressed the importance of city dwellers taking more responsibility to keep the city clean.

Citing it as an example, he said that as much as 200 truckloads of coconut husks, 33 mattresses, refrigerators, TVs and other rubbish were recovered from a single canal during a cleaning drive by the DNCC, all of which were discarded and dumped by nearby residents.

The mayor also urged each citizen to monitor an area of 400 yards around them in order to mitigate the growth of mosquito larvae, and reduce the impact of mosquito-borne diseases.

The program was moderated by film actor Ferdous who connected people with the mayor.
