Department head blames technical glitch

In a rare instance, creating confusion, a pharmacy department student of Dhaka University (DU) has passed the first-year final examination with GPA 4.03, out of a scale of 4, and been promoted to the second year.

However, the department on Saturday claimed the error occurred due to a technical glitch and said the student’s result was corrected soon after.

The online result for the 2018-19 academic session with the wrong results was published on November 26 on the pharmacy department website. A corrected version was hung on the notice board at the department on Thursday.

However, out of the 74 students who passed, results of at least four students, including the one who had gotten GPA 4.03, were still found incorrect in the second list.

The student actually secured GPA 3.88, according to the final result shown on the online dashboard.

Regarding the anomaly, the department’s Chairman Prof Firoz Ahmed said: “We are publishing the results online for the first time in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. There have been some technical glitches. But we have fixed it now.”

“The results may have changed through automatic calculation when they were entered in the excel sheet,” he added.

The final version of the corrected result also readjusted the GPAs of each student.
