Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam on Tuesday said all buildings, which have been constructed without Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha's (Rajuk) approval, will be demolished.
The mayor said this while inspecting the eviction drive of illegal establishments conducted by Rajuk on both sides of the road from Bhashantek Bazar to Pocket Gate in Dhaka, said a press release.
During the visit, Atiqul said buildings constructed illegally will be abolished.
He said, “Though Rajuk kept a provision of 20 feet space in the middle of the road between Matikata to Bhashantek area; but the construction work did not comply with the Rajuk’s plan. The building owners on both sides of the road had occupied a few feet of the road while constructing the buildings.”
For this, traffic-jam is created in this area every day and it takes a long time to cross this road, he added.
Atiq added: “As per request of the local people and public representatives of the area, we have decided to widen the road. If this road is widened, people will enjoy its benefits.”
DNCC Chief Executive Officer Md Selim Reza, Chief Waste Management Officer Commodore M Saidur Rahman, Councillor of Ward No 15 Salek Mollah, Councillor Ward No 16 Md Matiur Rahman were present during the drive, among others.
