Another police informer was also critically injured in the attack
A group of drug peddlers allegedly stabbed a police informer to death and left another critically injured in Dhaka's Kadamtali on Wednesday.
Kadamtali police station Sub-Inspector Rafiqul Islam confirmed Dhaka Tribune on Thursday that the deceased, Zakir Hossain, 40, was a police source.
Mojibor Rahman Mohan, another police source who was left critically injured in the attack, said: "Local drug peddler Liton called us on the phone at around 7:30pm and asked us to visit to Jurain Nobarun Goli. As we reached the spot, 20 to 25 people swooped down on us with sharp weapons."
He said the gang continued to stab them in multiple areas, leaving them critically injured.
“After I tried to catch them, they stabbed me under my eye and escaped. Once informed, police rushed to the spot and took us to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital where Zakir was declared dead at 8:40pm,” he added.
Mojibor is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital. After hearing the news, Rahman’s son, Shanto Islam, rushed to the hospital.
In conversation with Dhaka Tribune, he said: “My father was a CNG driver at the Kadamtali police station. I rushed to the hospital immediately after being notified.”
Zakir’s body has been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Zakir Hossain was from Bagerhat. He was the father of a son and a daughter.
