Police are yet to find any suspect while interrogation is underway

A body of a man was recovered, tied up from Baghbari an area on the outskirts of Darus Salam, Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon.

Assistant Commissioner of Darus Salam zone under Mirpur division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Mizanur Rahman confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune, adding: “Police are still investigating the case and need more time to understand the circumstances of his death.”

The deceased is identified as Akhter Hossain whose body was recovered by police from the ground floor of a Baghbari building, after being informed by locals.

Sultan Md Shakil, sub-inspector (SI) of Darus Salam police station, said that Akhter could be aged between 55 and 60, but his National Identity Card stated he aged near 47.

“Akhter worked in a developer company but he was unemployed since the Covid-19 pandemic. He has been divorced for 15 years,” SI Shakil said.

“We found the body face down on the floor, hands and legs were tied up as well as his face. We also found a hammer near the body. We are assuming that he died from bludgeoning from the hammer by other objects,” SI Shakil told Dhaka Tribune.

“After his divorce, Akhter moved into a rented room in the building. He has a daughter who is grown and married,” police said.

The body has been sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College morgue for an autopsy, and the procedure is scheduled to be done by Thursday, he added.

Police said they have not yet found any suspect. But the interrogation is underway and they are hopeful about solving the case soon.
