51 arrested in DMP anti-drug operations

Police have recovered yaba pills, heroin, cannabis, and phensedyl bottles from the possession of the detainees

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Saturday arrested 51 people in 24 hours, during anti-drug operations in different areas of Dhaka.

Detective Branch (DB) and local police station conducted drives separately from 6am on Friday and arrested the accused for carrying and consuming the illegal drugs.

During the drive, 13,518 yaba pills, 384.6g of heroin, 6.77kg of cannabis, and 107 bottles of phensedyl were recovered from the possession of the detainees.

A total of 37 cases were filed with local police stations against the detainees in connection with the recovery of the illegal drugs.

Among the recovered contraband Yaba pills, 12,000 yaba tablets were recovered and one alleged drug dealer was arrested by the DB police from Bangshal area on Friday.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of DB (Lalbagh Division) Md Saifur Rahman Azad said based on secret information a team of DB ( Kotwali Zone) arrested Md Ershad Alam Shanto, 34, conducting a raid in Nazim Uddin Road area and recovered the yaba pills consignment from his possession.

During primary interrogation, Shanto admitted that he had brought the yaba consignment from Cox’s Bazar frontier to supply it to drug dealers in Dhaka city, he said.

A case was filed with Jatrabari police station in connection with the incident.

In another drive, Jatrabari Thana police arrested four alleged drug dealers along with 100 bottles phensedyl and 4kg of hemp from Kotobkhali area on Dhaka-Chittagong Road on Friday.

The arrested suspected drug dealers are - Md Masum, Md Monir Hossain alias Banu, Md Babu, and Rumon.

A separate case was filed with the police station in this connection.
