DMP issues health, safety guidelines for medical admission test Friday

Some 122,0000 candidates will sit for the test for the 2020-2021 academic year across the country

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has requested students, set to sit for the medical admission test on Friday, to be present at the exam centres by 8am, considering the recent restrictions on public transport over the Covid-19 pandemic

The DMP issued this directive alongside several others on health and safety on Wednesday night and repeated them on Thursday morning.

They said a transport crisis may arise as all types of public transport will carry half their capacity in line with new restrictions, imposed by the government, that have followed the recent rise in Covid-19 cases and deaths around the country.

Anticipating the situation, all examinees have been requested to start for their exam centres with adequate time in hand.

DMP’s Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media and PR) Iftekhairul Islam told Dhaka Tribune: “As all transport facilities will carry half their capacity, candidates should leave their homes early in the morning to avoid delay.”

He said: "We are requesting candidates to reach the centre early as they will have to wait in line for a long time since they will be checked - maintaining social distance -  before entering."

The health and hygiene guidelines issued by the DMP include that every candidate must wear a face mask, social distancing must be maintained, and all candidates have to wash or disinfect their hands with soaps or hand sanitizers provided near the entrance of the exam centre.

On Wednesday, Health Minister Zahid Maleque had spoken on the rules and regulations to be maintained at the centres, stating: "Examinees will sit at a distance of three feet. Everyone must wear a mask, and there’ll be hand sanitizers.”

"We’ve set up a monitoring cell. If there’s any problem, the cell can be contacted. Also, there’ll be magistrates at the exam centres who’ll look after the overall issues," he added.

The minister also said the government will remain vigilant against any type of rumour during and after the exam, and reassured that question papers will not be leaked this time.

Some 122,0000 candidates will sit for the medical admission test for the 2020-2021 academic year across the country from 10am to 11am Friday.

Of them, 47,000 candidates will sit for the exam across 15 centres in Dhaka.
