LMG posts at 14 police stations, security beefed up near madrasas
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has increased security at all police stations and set up additional security check posts across the capital ahead of the nationwide lockdown beginning on Wednesday.
Light machine gun posts have been installed at 14 police stations in Dhaka, and security has been tightened in areas with a high concentration of madrasas, police sources said.
The move follows a series of riots, arson attacks and attacks on police stations across the country by the Islamist group Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh over the last month. Several leaders and activists of the group have been arrested.
DMP Motijheel Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police Syed Nurul Islam said security had been beefed up at every police station under his jurisdiction. Security posts have been set up at Motijheel, Sabujbagh, Khilgaon, Paltan, Rampura, Mugda and Shahjahanpur police stations.
According to Bangla Tribune, DMP DC (Wari) Shah Iftekhar Ahmed said security posts had been set up at Wari, Demra, Shyampur, Jatrabari, Gandaria, and Kadamtoli police stations, among others.
Security has also been tightened at all police stations in Old Dhaka.
A few days earlier, police began increasing security at various police stations across the country, including in Sylhet, Brahmanbaria, Narayanganj and Faridpur.
