Mayor Atiqul: No holding number, trade licence without fire safety system

The DNCC mayor urged all to abide by the Covid health safety rules to curb further spread of the deadly virus

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam has said that those who will construct buildings without having their own fire safety system will not be given a holding number or trade licence. 

The north city mayor said this during a virtual dialogue titled "The need for inter-agency coordination in disaster risk management in cities," organized by Save the Children, Bangladesh, in collaboration with the European Union (EU) – European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), on Sunday.

Atiqul, the chief guest of the event, said: “Under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Bangabandhu, Bangladesh has become a role model for the world not only in development but also in disaster management.”

“Dhaka is one of the most populous cities in the world. More than 40 organizations – both government and private – work for disaster risk management in this city. 

“The importance of inter-agency coordination in disaster risk management is unparalleled. DNCC will ensure all possible cooperation in this regard,” he added.

The DNCC mayor also urged people to abide by the health safety rules, including the 18-point guidelines issued by the government, to deal with the ongoing Covid upsurge across the country, read a press release issued in this regard.

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman and Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Dr Selina Hayat Ivy attended the program as special guests.
