Rain brings respite at last

It may rain intermittently in different parts of the country throughout the day

Dhaka city on Tuesday morning experienced heavy rainfall, bringing much-awaited respite after a prolonged heatwave that scorched parts of the country recently.

Some areas also experienced strong winds along with rain.

Meteorologist Shahinul Islam told Bangla Tribune that the rainfall, 24mm, since the morning was the highest in Dhaka this year.

He also said that it may rain intermittently in different parts of the country throughout the day.

A Met Office bulletin on Tuesday also said that light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Chittagong, Khulna and Barishal.

Moderately heavy to heavy falls may also occur at places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions.

Day temperature may fall slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, said the bulletin.

The country’s maximum temperature on Monday -- 35.5 degree Celsius -- was recorded in Rajshahi.

On Tuesday, the minimum temperature -- 19 degree Celsius -- was recorded at Dimla, Nilphamari.

However, the country’s highest rainfall -- 75mm -- in the last 24 hours till 6am Tuesday was recorded in Mymensingh.
