North South University (NSU) set a unique example by launching a world-renowned Learning Management System (LMS), CANVAS virtually on Sunday.
North South University has made an agreement with CANVAS. With the introduction of this system, North South University will be the only university in Bangladesh and probably in South Asia as well to use the "CANVAS Learning Management System," read a press release.
World-renowned universities such as Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Oxford, and Cambridge have been using CANVAS teaching methods for a long time.
It will be possible for students, teachers, administration, and parents to formulate, preserve, conduct classes, evaluate in different ways openly and transparently using this integrated platform.
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni was present as the chief guest. Chairman of NSU’s Board of Trustees, former president of FBCCI MA Kashem was present as the special guest.
Freedom Fighter Lion Benajir Ahmed and Chairman of The City Bank Limited, Aziz AI Kaiser, members of the Board of Trustees were present as guests of honour.
The introductory speech was delivered by Pro-Vice-Chancellor of NSU Dr M Ismail Hossain.
The session was chaired by Professor Atiqul Islam, vice-chancellor of NSU, and moderated by Jamil Ahmed, director of NSU’s Public Relations Office.
Speaking as the chief guest, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said, “I am glad to know that North South University (NSU) has made an agreement with world-class education management system ‘CANVAS Learning Management System (LMS)’ and through this event they are launching the LMS system.
“When the coronavirus outbreak in March last year, educational institutions were unable to continue the classes. NSU has successfully completed the ongoing three semesters through online classes and assessments. NSU has used technology in education systems, classrooms, administration, and infrastructure long ago,” read the press release.
She said: “With the introduction of the CANVAS, North South University took themselves to a new height by using more advanced and effective teaching methods.”
Speaking as the special guest, Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) MA Kashem said: “NSU has always been providing all kinds of facilities and conducted classes by international standard teachers to provide international quality education to the students. I am very proud that NSU is the first among the universities in Bangladesh and South Asia as well to introduce a world-class CANVAS Learning Management System."
Vice-Chancellor of NSU Prof Atiqul Islam, who also chaired the session, said: “NSU has never put a cap on how much can be spent on research, it is limited only by the number of meritorious research proposals. NSU is committed to provide international standard education, for this reason, NSU is always prompt to adopt any new technology which is used by renowned universities of the world.”
Among others, deans of different schools, directors of various departments, department heads, senior officials, teachers, students and alumni of NSU were also connected at the virtual program, added the statement.
