1 killed, 5 injured in Banani road crash

One person was killed and five others injured when a private car rammed into a pickup van at Dhaka’s Banani area in the early hours of Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Jalil Mollah, 40, the driver of the pickup van. The injured have been given treatment for minor injuries.

The incident took place at colony intersection near the Naval Headquarters, Banani police station Sub-Inspector Mahfuz said.

“The pickup van was heading towards the Airport from Mohakhali area carrying 10 to 12 labourers. When the it reached the Naval Headquarters area, a speeding car hit the pickup van from behind and toppled it. The body of the driver has been kept at the morgue for autopsy,” he said.

Witnesses said the driver of the pickup van was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital in critical condition where on duty-doctors declared him dead.
