Police have submitted a charge sheet against Hasan Al Mamun, former convener of Bangladesh Students’ Rights Council, in a case filed with Lalbagh police station over the rape of a Dhaka University (DU) student last year.

The police station’s OC Aslam Uddin Mollah, who is the investigating officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court on Thursday.

On the basis of the findings of the investigation, police exempted five other accused in the case, including Nurul Haque Nur, former vice president of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu).

The four others excluded from the charge sheet are Nazmul Hassan Shohag and Md Saiful Islam, joint conveners of Bangladesh Students’ Rights Council, Nazmul Huda, vice president of the organization’s DU unit, and Abdullah Hil Baki, a DU student and an activist of the organization.

According to the case dossier, Mamun and the reported rape survivor had fallen in love and had been in a relationship since they first met back in July 2018.

“We [the complainant and Mamun] used to talk on different social media platforms, like Messenger, Imo and WhatsApp, where evidence of him persuading me to be physically intimate can be found,” she mentioned in the case filed on September 21, 2020 on charges of rape and abetment of rape.

She claimed that she visited Mamun at his residence in Old Dhaka’s Lalbagh area after he had asked her to do so on the day of the reported incident.
