Covid-19 lockdown: Long-haul buses denied entry to Dhaka city

The move comes as lockdowns have been imposed in seven nearby districts

With a strict lockdown imposed in seven nearby districts, long-haul buses are not being allowed to enter Dhaka city as part of emergency measures to contain transmission amid rising coronavirus infection.

Buses were being diverted and passengers being dropped off before the Gabtoli bridge at the inter-district bus terminal and Amin Bazar bus stop on Tuesday morning, reports Bangla Tribune.

However, vehicles for emergency service are being allowed to pass through.

Braving the rain due to being dropped off on the road, people were seen walking to their destinations.

Law enforcers have been diverting buses before they reached the Amin Bazar bridge. Bus services from Savar to various destinations in Dhaka city are suspended.

Long-route buses from Gabtoli terminal suspended

Due to the lockdown in seven districts around Dhaka, all long-haul bus services from Gabtoli have been suspended since Tuesday morning as per the decision of the government and the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners' Association.

However, many people were found crossing the Gabtoli bridge on foot to go to Amin Bazar to check if there were any transport options available.

Law enforcers were seen busy at the entry points of the capital since early morning.

Passengers on all vehicles were questioned, including those in private transportations.
