Poriborton Kori Foundation on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Gen Lab on climate awareness initiative “Climathon.”

Climathon, a city-based program, offers a pathway to action and interaction, as well as an opportunity for the citizens to share climate challenges, read a press release on Saturday.

The program is created by EIT Climate-KIC, a leading climate innovation initiative co-founded by the EU, working to accelerate the transition to a zero-carbon, climate resilient society.

Poriborton Kori Foundation’s Barrister Shahzeb Mahmood and Gen Lab Public Relations and Communications Manager Ishrat Bint Rouf signed the MoU on behalf of their respective sides.

Addressing the event, Barrister Shahzeb Mahmood said: “I commend this excellent initiative by Gen Lab and Poriborton Kori Foundation to raise awareness about climate change, and engage policymakers and youth leaders in the dialogues and discussions.”

Ishrat Bint Rouf echoed Barrister Mahmood and said: “Climathon consists of everyday climate heroes who will empower and provide market-ready guidance towards developing green projects and businesses.”

This year’s Climathon is scheduled to be held from October 25 to October 31.

This initiative aims to provide a stage for those who want to act on behalf of the needs of the planet and globally turn the cities carbon-neutral by 2030.

After successful completion of the program in 2018 and 2019 in Dhaka, this year it is expanding to launch in India, Nepal, Bhutan and Myanmar.

Poriborton Kori Foundation President Ahsan Bhuiyan said: “Climathon is aligned with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and shall be a great preparatory platform for us before the upcoming COP26 UN Climate Change Conference to represent Bangladesh.”
