Case filed, two suspects held over the incident
A man has died from his injuries after he was beaten up by locals at a Dhaka neighbourhood on suspicion of theft.
Two people have been held over the incident, which was reported late on Thursday, from the capital’s Sabujbagh, say police
The victim, estimated to be in his late 20s, could only say that his name was Hridoy before succumbing to the injuries.
The man was held around 11:15pm from the construction site of a club at the local playground in Bashabo, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Anwar Hossain of the Sabujbagh police.
Locals, including the club’s manager and its caretaker, tied the victim’s hands and legs before beating him up, according to the police officer.
On information, police rushed to the scene and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in an unconscious state.
He died at around 3am on Friday. A case has been filed over the incident.
Police have detained two people from the spot and are conducting raids to nab others involved in the incident, he said.
The investigating officer (IO) of the case, SI Sheikh Aminul Bashar, said that anyone is yet to claim the body of the deceased.
"We only know his name. That's all he could say before his death. His autopsy has been performed.
“We are trying to reach out to the victim's family,” the IO added.
