Rescue operation continues for the missing child
Three teenage girls died from drowning in a canal while another remained missing in Pineshail village of Gazipur on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Richie Akhter, 15, Irene Akhter, 14, and Maya Akhter, 14. Rescue operations have been conducted to find Riya Akhter, 10.
Tasharuf Hossain, in-charge of Joydebpur Fire Station, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
“Five-six teenagers went swimming in the Labandah Canal in the afternoon, but four of them were swept away due to strong current,” he added.

Locals rescued one of them and took her to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.
Upon receiving the news, the Fire Service members came and recovered two bodies after trying for about two and a half hours.
Fire Service Inspector Abdur Razzak Mia said drives were underway to recover the body of the missing child.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abdullah Al Zaki, local Land Assistant Officer SM Mannan and Joydebpur police are monitoring the rescue operation.
