Police press charges against model Mariam Mou in drugs case

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has pressed charges against Model Mariam Akhter Mou in a case filed with Mohammadpur police station under the Narcotics Control Act.

After completion of the investigation, CID Inspector Probir Kumar Ghosh, also the investigation officer of the case, pressed the charges with the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s (CMM) court on Thursday.

Confirming about the charge sheet, Sub-Inspector Md Shoriful Islam, general recording officer (GRO) of CMM court, told Dhaka Tribune: “Fourteen people have been named in the charge sheet as prosecution witnesses including the complainant in the case.”

According to the charge sheet, the accused possessed drugs and should face trial for the offence in the case.

On August 1, the Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Mou from the capital’s Mohammadpur area in Dhaka on charges of blackmailing people with objectionable photos.

Later, the narcotics case was filed over drugs and liquor recovered from her residence.

Mou, while being taken into police custody, claimed to journalists that there were no drugs at her house and that she had been framed.
