Police have arrested four people in connection with the disappearance of the three girls who are still missing

Police have rescued five of the eight girls who went missing from Dhaka’s Mirpur in three days.

ASM Mahtab Uddin, deputy commissioner of Mirpur Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed the matter.

Of the eight girls who had gone missing from Dhaka’s Mirpur area on three consecutive days, two were rescued on Monday night. The two girls – aged 10 and 13 – had been missing from the Ansar camp area on Wednesday.

The mother of the 10-year-old filed a general diary after her daughter went out with a neighbouring girl, the 13-year-old, to buy a pen and did not return, said Mostajirur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mirpur police station.

He added that the father of the 10-year-old is a rickshaw puller. They could not contact the family of the other girl.

The duo were rescued from the Sadarghat area, said Manas Kumar Podder, deputy commissioner of the Mirpur Division of the Detective Branch of police.

Two more girls, aged 13 and 14, went missing from Janata Housing area on Friday, according to a general diary filed by the mother of one of the girls the next day.

OC Mostajirur Rahman said the 14-year-old is the daughter of the complainant and the other is their house-help. The mother, who works in a private company, claimed that the girls went out of the house in the afternoon and did not return.

The police have notified that Rupnagar police rescued one of the girls from Gazipur, while Mirpur police rescued another from Netrokona on Tuesday.

Our Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) correspondent reports that Detective Branch officials admitted the two Mirpur girls at the DMCH one-stop crisis center (OCC) for physical examination.

Dr Bilkis Begum, coordinator of OCC, said that forensic tests have been done on the duo.

DC ASM Mahtab Uddin said another went missing from her home in Rupnagar area on Thursday, and she was also brought back.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, police arrested four people in a case filed over the disappearance of three female college students from Pallabi area in Mirpur.

However, the missing girls are yet to be traced.

Pallabi police station OC Parvez Islam identified the four suspects as Md Tariqullah, 19, Md Rakibullah, 20, Zinnia alias Tiktok Zinnia Rose, 18, and Sharfuddin Ahmed Ayon, 18.

Later, a Dhaka court placed Rakibullah on two days’ remand and sent the other three to jail.

According to the police, the three girls -- aged between 16 and 18 -- left their homes in college uniforms with a large sum of money, gold jewellery and their academic and birth certificates on Thursday. They have been missing since then.

On Saturday, the elder sister of one of the girls, lawyer Qazi Rowshan Dil Afroj, filed a case with Pallabi police station against the four arrestees and another four unidentified persons.

The families claimed that the accused lured the girls with offers of travel abroad and then abducted them. They also claimed that the arrestees were involved in human trafficking.
