“The government has been supporting girls’ education for decades,” said the minister at the Shornokishoree National Convention 2016 organised by Shornokishoree Network Foundation at the Sultana Kamal Mahila Complex.
Every year, the number of girls on the merit list is increasing: “We have ensured equal opportunities for girls. They now take on every challenge and compete equally with boys,” he further said.
The number of girls in primary schools is 51% and 53% in secondary, with a 45% tertiary presence.
The education minister said: “Women should come forward more often, and the government will continue to support women in society.”
Addressing the programme, the minister said: “The new generation must gain global standard knowledge and skills, because girls are the future leaders of this country.”
He said the quality of education needs to improve along with the quality of teachers in Bangladesh.
