Dhaka University celebrates its founding day

The Dhaka University Day is celebrating its 96th founding anniversary Saturday with great enthusiasm and festivity on the campus. The day marks the launching of the university with just 847 students in three faculties and 12 departments on July 1 in 1921. Now the university has grown to accommodate over 34,000 students and some 2,000 teachers in 67 departments and 10 institutes. DU authorities have chalked out various programmes to observe the day with the theme- “Higher Education for Innovation and Development”'. Different buildings and infrastructures including the Arts Building, TSC and Curzon Hall have already been decorated. To mark the day, the university and its hall flags were hoisted at the mall adjacent to the administrative building. Later a colourful rally of the students, teachers, officials and employees will be brought out and it will end at TSC. In his message conveyed on the occasion of the founding anniversary, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique remembered the father of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the language martyrs and the Liberation War martyrs.
