In the 2017-18 academic session, 277,715 admission seekers will compete for only 7,123 seats at Dhaka University (DU), leading to an average of 39 applicants per position.
However, this still compares favourably to last year, when 302,489 admission seekers applied for a mere 6,800 seats, resulting in an average of 45 applicants per place.
Among the applicants, 91,143 will vie for 1,765 seats in Ka-unit, 33,164 for 2,363 seats in Kha-unit, 29,954 for 1,250 seats in Ga-unit, 103,282 for 1,610 seats in Gha-unit, and 20,172 for 135 seats in Cha-unit, said DU Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique.

The deadline for online applications ended at 10pm on Tuesday, August 29, after they had begun on August 7. The admission tests for the 2017-18 session will begin on September 15 and end on October 20.
The VC added that calculators, mobile phones and any kind of mobile communication devices were prohibited in the exam hall and a mobile court would be on duty during the examinations.
