Calling Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid a simpleminded man, Awami League Lawmaker Shamsul Hoque Chowdhury on Tuesday defended him as he faces huge criticism for his “failure” to prevent the repeated incidents of question paper leakage.
“If another person is made education minister after removing him, it cannot be ensured that question papers will not get leaked anymore,” Shamsul, a lawmaker from Chittagong 12 constituency, told parliament participating in the general discussion on thanksgiving motion over the president's speech.
"What can he alone do? Launch an investigation against those who are working under the minister... He is a simpleminded man," he said.
The remarks came a day after Jatiya Party lawmaker Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu on Monday in the House demanded resignation of the minister for his recent remarks over bribes and failure to check question paper leaks.
Noting that the demand is being raised frequently for Nahid’s resignation, Shamsul said: "If another person replaces him, can anyone ensure that question papers will not get anymore?" the Awami League lawmaker asked the question.
