In the wake of nonstop question paper leaks and allegations of corruption, the government has transferred 30 officials of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) and Dhaka education board.
The officials, all of them of Bangladesh Civil Service’s (BCS) general education cadre, have been made principals, associate and assistant professors at different colleges in a number of districts in and outside of Dhaka.
Two notices signed by Secondary and Higher Education Division (SHED) Senior Assistant Secretary Fatama Tul Jannat were issued on Thursday in this regard.
Among those transferred was Manmatha Ranjan Baroi, Dhaka education board deputy inspector of colleges and former assistant personal secretary of Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid.
Others include Dhaka education board Inspector for Colleges Md Ashfaq us Salehin, Inspector for Schools ATM Mainul Hossain, SHED Director Md Selim.
The officials were transferred to Rajbari, Narayanganj, Lakshmipur, Khulna, Jessore, Kishoreganj, Sylhet, Joypurhat, Feni, Manikganj, Sirajganj, Shariatpur, Bhola, Naogaon, Chapainawabganj, Rajshahi, Faridpur, Chittagong, Bogra, Brahmanbaria, Barisal, Patuakhali and Faridpur.
Recently, a fear of transfer had emerged among officials of the Ministry of Education, DSHE, SHED and the educations boards after two officials of the ministry and DSHE were arrested on corruption charges, on top of the question leak spree that has plagued the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations since February 1.
The transferred BCS general education cadre officials allegedly are not interested in taking classes in government colleges and have been holding onto their posts to enjoy the facilities of the administrative positions.
According to service rules, an official cannot stay in the same post for more than three years, but these officials have been in their posts for five to 12 years. Some officials did not even take promotions to avoid losing the administrative posts and their facilities.
