Number of GPA-5 achievers rises, pass rate falls
A total of 77.77% students passed in this year's Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and its equivalent examinations, which is 2.58 percentage points lower compared to the previous year. The results have been published across Bangladesh on Sunday. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid handed over the results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Gonobhaban around 10am. The prime minister unveiled the result digitally, which will be available online after 2pm.

The students can get the results from their respective school or it will also be available on www.educationboardresults.gov.bd While handing over the result, Nahid said the overall pass rate in the SSC and its equivalent examinations is 77.77% this year, which was 80.35% in 2017. He said a total of 110,629 students achieved the highest GPA-5 this year. But last year the number of GPA-5 achievers was 104,761 under the 10 education boards, including eight general ones. This year girls performed better comparing to boys in the examinations as the pass rate among boys is 76.71%, while among girls it is 78.85%.

A total of 2,026,574 candidates sat for the SSC and its equivalent examinations this year which was 1,718,962 in 2017. The SSC and its equivalent examinations began across Bangladesh on February 1 and ended on February 26 while the practical exams continued until March 4. Chairmen of the 10 education boards handed over the copies of results of their respective boards to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Later, Sheikh Hasina exchanged views with students and teachers of two districts - Barishal and Bandarban-through videoconferencing. State Minister for Technical and Madrasha Education Division Kazi Keramat Ali also spoke on the occasion, while Principal Secretary of PMO Md Nojibur Rahman conducted it.
