The government has decided to increase the number of seats by 500 for MBBS course in government medical colleges from the 2018-19 academic session.
The decision was taken a meeting held at the Secretariat on Wednesday with Health Minister Mohammad Nasim in the chair, according to a PID handout, reports UNB.
It said there were currently 3,318 seats in all 31 medical colleges and the number will reach 3,818 with the additional 500 seats.
The government has taken the decision to ensure quality medical education and health care for people at upazila and union levels.
State Minister for Health Zahid Maleque and Chittagong Medical College Vice-chancellor Dr Ismail Khan were, among others, present at the meeting.
