An anonymous source sent pictures of the alleged leaked questions to journalists 31 minutes after the exam began

Dhaka University (DU) on Friday held the admission test for its Gha unit, under the social science faculty. However, question leak allegations surfaced sometime after the exam began.

The Gha unit admission test began at 10am, and an anonymous source sent a message to journalists, claiming the questions were leaked before the exam, at 10:31am.

The message included 14 pictures of various, handwritten multiple choice questions (MCQs) with answers. The source alleged that these MCQs were leaked to some admission seekers through social media at 9:17am, 43 minutes before the commencement of the exam.

After scrutinizing the images and comparing them to the question paper distributed at the exam halls, this correspondent found that 72 MCQs in the images matched the actual exam script. Of the total 100 MCQs, 19 questions in the Bangla section, 17 in the English section, and 36 in the general knowledge sectionmatched the images.

A screenshot also showed that the images were supplied to some admission seekers via Facebook Messenger and WhatsAppat 9:17am.

The source, who claims to be a student of DU, in the message said: “An admission seeker from my village came to my dormitory the night before the exam. A set of questions were sent to him through WhatsApp, but he was notified later that they were the wrong questions.”

“At 9:17am on the exam day, another set of handwritten questions and answers reached the admission seeker. His guardian sent him photos of these questions and answers through Facebook Messenger. The admission seeker told me his father had collected the papers from EPP Coaching Centre in Bogra,” the source added.

After campus based journalists received the message, some of them informed Assistant Proctor Sohail Rana about the alleged question leak, midway through the exam. The university official said he would look into the matter.

Subsequently, DU Proctor Prof AKM Golam Rabbani told reporters at his office: “We could not verify if the question leak allegations were from a reliable source. The admission test was conducted under strict supervision, so there is no chance of a question leak. We will look into the allegation to see if it is indeed a question leak or digital forgery.”

Allegations of question paper leaks in ‘Gha’ unit admission test also surfaced last year. E-mails containing questions of the English part of the exam were sent to some admission seekers around eight hours before the exam began. The university authorities had formed a probe body to investigate the incident, but they are yet to submit a report.

A total of 95,341 candidates appeared in the admission test this year, vying for 1,615 seats.
