No exams for class 1-3 students from this year

The students will be promoted to the next grade on the basis of an evaluation process

Starting from this year, students of classes one, two and three will not have to sit for exams, according to Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Secretary Akram Al Hossain.

The secretary made the announcement during the publication of the primary scholarship exam results at the Secretariat on Sunday.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had instructed the ministry to not hold any exams for students of class 1-3.

The Primary and Mass Education Ministry was initially set put the decision into effect from 2020, but this was later changed to this year.

The secretary said: “There will still be an evaluation process for the students before they are promoted to the next class. And for classes four and five, exams will be mandatory.

“Raids against coaching centres are currently ongoing all over the country, and mobile courts will take necessary action against the centres,” he added.

This year, 33,000 students will receive scholarships under the talent pool quota after the primary closing exams, and 49,500 under the general quota. This brings the total number of students receiving scholarships to 82,500.
