DU admission: 39 aspirants vying for each seat

In the past, only MCQ tests were held for 120 marks

In the 2019-20 academic session, 276,522 admission seekers will compete with each other for only 7,118 seats at Dhaka University (DU).

This means there are 39 applicants for each seat.

Last year, 272,512 aspirants registered for 7,128 seats, resulting in 38 competitors for each seat.

Among the applicants, 88,976 will vie for 1,795 seats in Ka-unit, 45,013 for 2,378 seats in Kha-unit, 29,056 for 1,250 seats in Ga-unit, 97,479 for 1,560 seats in Gha-unit, and 15,998 for 135 seats in Cha-unit, said a DU press release on Tuesday.

The deadline for online applications ended on Tuesday, August 27, after beginning on August 5. 

Calculators, mobile phones and any kind of mobile communication devices are prohibited in the exam hall, and a mobile court will be on duty during the examinations.

The admission test is scheduled to start from September 13 with “Ga” unit exam under Business Studies faculty.

The Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) test willcontain 75 marks, while the written test will contain 45 marks, the committee decided. 

In the past, only MCQ tests were held for 120 marks.

The applicants will get 50 minutes to answer 60 MCQ questions, and 40 minutes for the written test. 

Each MCQ question will have 1.25 marks.  

The passing mark for the MCQ portionis set at 30.

The written papers will not be evaluated if applicantsfails to obtain passing marks in the MCQ.

For the written test, a candidate has to score 12 or more to pass. If a candidate gets less than 12 marks, but passes the MCQ part, he or she will still be considered ineligible for admission. 

No questions related to general knowledge will be included in the written test.

The fee for registration was set at Tk450 for this year. It was Tk350 in last few years.
