University Grant Commission (UGC) is going to hold a uniform admission test on November 30, also known as “cluster admission,” for enrollment in seven public universities, to reduce the hassle for admission seekers.

UGC member Prof Dil Afroz Begum told Dhaka Tribune: “Circular for cluster admission to seven agricultural, and science technology universities has been published. The combined admission application has begun, and the admission test will be held on November 30.”

The universities are: Bangladesh Agricultural University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU), Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Sylhet Agricultural University, Khulna Agricultural University, Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, and Patuakhali Science and Technology University.

At present, medical colleges and the national university have a uniform entrance exam.

The rest of the public universities will hold separate admission tests, but UGC hoped that all public universities would introduce a uniform admission test system by 2020, said Dil Afroz.

She further said that they have already received 38,000 applications while they would admit 35,000 students to the seven universities.

The education ministry in 2010 decided in principle to introduce the cluster system for hassle-free examinations.

Under the system, admission seekers would be enrolled at public universities based on merit from one single test.

According to the UGC sources, the application process started from September 10, and the last date of application submission is October 15.

Application fee of Tk1000 can be paid through Bkash, Rocket, or Surecash.

The seat plan for the admission test will be published on November 25, the admit card can be downloaded between October 20 to November 28. The admission test results will be published on December 5.
