Cyclone Bulbul: Saturday's JSC, JDC exams postponed

JSC, JDC, NU exams postponed

The Ministry of Education suspended the examinations of Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) scheduled to be held Saturday across Bangladesh, due to the very severe cyclonic storm Bulbul.

MA Khayer, public relations officer of the ministry, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

"Saturday's [today's] JSC exam will be held at the same time on November 12, while JDC on November 14," he said.

Examinees of both JSC and JDC were scheduled to sit for mathematics examination today at 10am.

Meanwhile, the National University (NU) authorities have also postponed all the examinations scheduled for Saturday. NU will announce a fresh schedule for the examinations very soon.

Public servants' holidays cancelled in 13 districts 

The holidays including weekly and government leaves for the all civil servants have been cancelled in 13 districts, reports Bangla Tribune citing State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain.

"We have cancelled the holidays of the government officials and employees at the 13 cyclone-prone districts in a bid to tackle the scale of damage [after the storm]," he said.

"We are in contact with the local administrations and getting the update," Farhad said adding that the government was readying preparedness for the cyclone.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Friday evening asked maritime ports of Mongla and Payra to hoist danger signal number seven, and port of Chittagong to hoist danger signal number six as the very severe cyclonic storm was approaching towards Bangladesh coasts. 

At a special weather bulletin, the Met office advised maritime port of Cox’s Bazar to keep hoisting local warning signal number four.

Bulbul is likely to intensify further and move in a north - northeasterly direction and may cross West Bengal- Khulna coast (near Sundarbans) by this evening, the bulletin added.
