DU researchers contributed to 669 of 6,363 documents, according to data analyzed on January 5
Dhaka University (DU) has the apex position among Bangladeshi universities in terms of research collaboration.
Research watchdog in Bangladesh, the magazine Scientific Bangladesh, published the findings on Saturday after examining data and information of the USA based Scopus Database, said a DU press release on Wednesday.
Scientific Bangladesh, with the assistance of Scopus has been preparing a list of research collaboration since 2012.
DU researchers contributed to 669 documents according to data analyzed on January 5, of Scopus indexed journals and proceedings and books, including 173 open access documents.
According to Scientific Bangladesh, as of 4 January 2020, there are 6,363 documents in the Scopus Database with Bangladeshi affiliation. 1,810 of them have open access.
The magazine also said: Almost all the documents are in English (6,358). However, a few are in other languages--French (3), Spanish (3), Chinese (1), Czech (1) and Swedish (1).
Some 5825 documents are finally published and 538 documents are in press.
The top three subject areas are: Engineering (1861), Computer Science (1644) and Medicine (1126).
Among the top researchers, Dr Asiri, a Saudi Arabian, has published 45 documents as co-author with Bangladesh affiliated researchers in 2019.
The second position holder M Mia, and MM Rahman the fourth position holder, are among top researchers from Bangladesh, but they are performing research from England and Saudi Arabia respectively.
Third position holder is Kawsar Ahmed from Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU), while Ahmed Tahmeed from icddr,b has fifth place among Bangladeshi researchers.
DU has secured the highest position with 669 publications and Bangladesh University of Science and Technology (BUET) has second position with 666 publications.
Icddr,b secured third position with 394 documents and Rajshahi University 4th position with 330 publications. Jahangirnagar University is in 5th position with around 250 publications.
Two private universities, BRAC University with 244 publications in 6th position, and Daffodil International University with 235 publications in 8th position, have been placed in the top ten for the first time.
