The government has appointed Prof Satya Prasad Majumder as the new vice-chancellor (VC) of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet).
Prof Satya Prasad Majumder will serve as the VC of Buet for the next four years, a letter signed by Joint Secretary Sayed Ali Reza was issued in this regard on Thursday.
Dr Satya Prasad Majumder is a professor at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) of Buet.
He had joined Buet in 1981 and served in various positions at the department, faculty, and university levels.
Prof Majumder also performed as Head of the EEE department at Buet from June 2006 to May 2008.
He also served as a visiting faculty at Multimedia University (Malaysia), Gunma University (Japan), and University of Parma (Italy) for different periods of time.
Prof Majumder also did some consultancy for Asia IT&C Program, South Asian Association for Regional Co¬operations (SAARC), Dhaka Chamber of Commerce (DCC).
He completed his BSc (1st class Honours) and MSc in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from Buet, in 1981 and 1985, respectively.
In 1991, Prof Majumder obtained his PhD in Electric & Electronic Communication Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur.
Prof Majumder is replacing Prof Saiful Islam, who was appointed as VC on June 23, 2016.
