The government no longer wants to create such an educated unemployed workforce

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni on Wednesday said that the number of educated unemployed graduates is increasing due to the lack of technical and vocational education.

The minister made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at an online discussion meeting on the occasion of World Youth Skills Day 2020, organized by the National Skills Development Authority at the Prime Minister's Office.

“A large number of students are achieving honours and master’s degrees from our education system, but is there a demand for such numbers in the job market? Now we need to consider it,” she said.

The government no longer wants to create such an educated unemployed workforce.

Considering the issue, the government has given top priority to technical and vocational education, and has streamlined the overall education system, added Dipu Moni.

The online discussion meeting was chaired by the premier’s Principal Secretary Dr Ahmed Kaikaus and was attended by representatives of various government agencies, development partners, and civil society representatives.

The theme for World Youth Skills Day 2020 is "skills for resilient youth."

"We are now in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. We could not take advantage of the previous three industrial revolutions. We want to take maximum advantage this time," said the minister.

She said that no resource is greater than skilled human resources.

“As a result of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the national and international labour market is changing rapidly.

“To cope with this, we have to transform our huge population into human resources by combining technology and skills as per the demand and the government is working towards this goal,” she added.
