Uniform admission test: Application process begins Thursday

The application process for admission to undergraduate courses at 20 general, science, and technology (GST) universities will begin on Thursday.

Application forms will be available online till April 15, according to a notice signed by Md Ohiduzzama, the secretary of the admission committee and the registrar of Jagannath University, on Wednesday.

The circular also mentioned the eligibility and other criteria for the initial application as well as the schedule of the admission tests.

According to the circular, the admission test for A Unit (science) will be held on June 19, B Unit (humanities) on June 26, and C Unit (commerce) on July 3. 

The one-hour test will start at 12pm and will continue till 1pm on the announced dates.

According to the press release, students do not have to pay any fee for the initial application. Those who have passed HSC and equivalent examinations in 2019 and 2020 will be able to apply. But, students must have a minimum total of GPA 8 (SSC and HSC) for science group while minimum GPA 7.5 (SSC and HSC) for the commerce group and minimum GPA 7 (SSC and HSC) for the humanities group. Students of each group must have a minimum GPA 3.5 in SSC and HSC examinations separately.

The results of the students, who are eligible to participate in the admission tests, will be informed on April 23 through a mobile message. Initially, selected students will be able to submit a final application for participation in the admission tests by depositing Tk500 through mobile banking service.

Applicants will be able to download their admission card form from June 1 to June 10, said the release.

The universities are Islamic University (IU), Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Khulna University (KU), Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University, Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU), Jagannath University (JnU), Comilla University, Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University, Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST), Begum Rokeya University Rangpur (BRUR), Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST), Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU), Barisal University (BU) and Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU).

The VCs of a total of 19 universities decided to take centralized admission tests at a meeting on December 1 last year. Later, PSTY decided to join them in the efforts to organize a unified admission system to lessen the suffering of students.

Based on three subjects – science, humanities, and commerce – admission tests will be conducted directly at these public universities. 

Question papers are to be prepared based on the syllabus of the higher secondary exams.
