The registration procedure will be resumed later considering the overall situation of the pandemic

Update : 27 Jun 2021, 04:44 PM

As the country’s Covid-19 situation is deteriorating quickly, the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education has suspended the registration procedures for this year’s Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exams.

Dhaka Education Board Controller of Examinations Prof Amirul Islam confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Sunday.

He said the form fill-up procedures of the HSC and equivalent examinations has been postponed as the coronavirus transmission is increasing in an alarming rate across the country.

The registration procedure will be resumed later considering the overall situation of the pandemic, he added.

A notification signed by Prof Amirul Islam was issued in this connection.

Earlier, the authorities said the form fill-up process would be open from June 29 to July 11.

Educational institutes throughout the country have remained closed since March last year owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Despite the government announcing plans to reopen schools and colleges multiple times, the pandemic situation has thus far prevented them from doing so.

In such circumstances, HSC examinees were evaluated on the basis of their results in JSC and SSC exams last year so that they could pursue higher education.

On June 13, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni reiterated that preparations were underway to take SSC and HSC examinations this year with a shortened syllabus, but the government was also considering alternative options.
