172 teams from 41 universities took part in the quiz competition held from July 24 to August 1
The team from Dhaka University’s Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department has bagged the first national biotechnology quiz challenge.
Two teams from the Sylhet Agricultural University and Gopalganj’s Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University won the runners-up and third positions, respectively, according to a press release issued on Monday.
As many as 172 teams from 41 universities took part in the quiz competition, the first of its kind organized by the Global Network of Bangladeshi Biotechnologists (GNOBB), held from July 24 to August 1.
The competition aimed to popularize biotechnology among the youth and develop their skills and knowledge in frontier science.
Prof Mohammad Nasir Uddin of Texas A&M University attended the final round of the competition as a special guest while Dr Md Anowar Hossain, the vice-chancellor of Jessore Science and Technology University, and Dr Shah Mohammad Faruq of Independent University, Bangladesh attended the concluding ceremony as chief and special guests, respectively.
GNOBB President Dr Zeba I Seraj, who teaches biochemistry at Dhaka University, its General Secretary Dr Asadul Ghani, who heads the biosafety lab of icddr,b; and GNOBB founding member Dr Abidur Rahman, a plant bioscience professor at Iwate University, Japan, also joined the virtual event, among others.
