Cox’s Bazar municipality polls end peacefully

Cox’s Bazar municipality elections ended peacefully on Wednesday without any incident.

Voting ended at 4pm at 39 voting centres of the municipality’s 12 wards. Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) were used at three centres.

Due to heavy rainfall, there were fewer voters than usual at the polling centres.

There were 224 permanent and 11 temporary voting booths at the 39 polling centres.

There was one presiding officer at every centre, with an assistant presiding officer in every booth, and high security at all the polling centres. Also, 448 polling agents served all across the 39 polling centres.

This year, five candidates are running for mayor, 17 for reserved women councilor posts, and 64 for general councilor posts.

There are a total of 83,728 voters. 44,373 are men and 39,355 are women voters – in 12 wards of the municipality.

Cox’s Bazar Returning Officer Md Mozammel Hossain said they took every possible measure to ensure voters cast their ballots peacefully.  

Mozammel said: “There were 12 magistrates for all the 12 wards.”

“Six platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), 50 Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) men, and a huge number of policemen were there to maintain law and order at the polling centres,” he sai
