Electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be used in the next general election on a small scale if the Representation of the People Order (RPO) is amended, said Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda on Friday.
He came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after visiting the EC stall at the three-day development fair at the Sylhet Alia Madrasah ground in the afternoon. The fair that began on Thursday will end today.
The CEC said EVMs are being showcased at the development fair in all the 64 districts to raise awareness about their use. He urged the leaders of political parties to visit the EC stall to get some knowledge about EVMs.
Asked when the schedule for the next general election will be announced, Nurul Huda said they were yet to take any decision in this regard.
He expressed the hope that a free, fair and neutral election will be held with cooperation from all. Token voting was also held using EVMs and the CEC announced the results after the polling.
