According to the letter, fines would be imposed on those who violated the directive
The Election Commission has given instruction to the Local Government Division (LGD) to remove all campaign materials by 12am on November 26.
The commission also asked the LGD to take action against candidates who failed to remove their campaign materials within the deadline.
The order was sent to the senior secretary of LGD, Ministry of Local Government, Ministry of Rural Development and Co-operatives, Prime Minister’s Office, and Bangladesh police through a letter on Monday night.
According to the letter, fines would be imposed on those who violated the directive.
The letter also asked the LGD to take assistance from law law enforcement agencies and the executive magistrate to remove the campaign materials.
According to the electoral code of conduct, no campaign-related material should be on display after the announcement of the election schedule.
In a directive issued earlier, the Election Commission had asked for the removal of all campaign materials including posters, banners, and billboards by November 18.
In a press briefing on Monday afternoon, Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said: “Field officials have informed us that 90% of campaign materials have been removed from public spaces across the country so far. Now, action will be taken against those who did not follow the commission's directives. Magistrates have been deployed in each upazila in this regard.”
