Commenting on the BNP’s recently submitted complaints to the Election Commission, Quader termed it a habit of that party
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said a significant number of BNP leaders and activists are waiting anxiously for an opportunity to join the Awami League.
He made the comment at a press conference held at the political office of Awami League President Sheikh Hasina in Dhaka on Wednesday.
Addressing the program, Quader said: “If our leader (Sheikh Hasina) gives the green signal, a large number of BNP leaders and activists will flock at the doorstep of Awami League. Mirza Fakhrul (BNP Secretary General) will not be able to stop these people from joining us.”
Responding to a query, Quader further said: “The phenomenon of ‘Horse trading’ (changing sides politically) is quite common during parliamentary elections. This is not a new scenario. Dr Kamal Hossain, Sultan Monsur and Mahmudur Rahman Manna used to support the Awami League.
“They are now in an alliance with the BNP. Everyone has the right to change sides.”
When asked about the nomination process, Quader said: “Allocation of constituencies has not been finalized as yet. We have held dialogue in this regard with 14 parties and the Jatiya Party. The process is making headway and formal announcement will be made at a later date.”
Commenting on the BNP’s recently submitted complaints to the Election Commission, Quader termed it a habit of that party.
Awami League Organizing Secretary Enamul Haque Shamim and Awami League Cultural Affairs Secretary Asim Kumar Ukil were present at the program among many others.
